What Can You Do In London During The Winter?

You might need to wrap up to visit London during the coldest months of the year, but it is well worth doing. The city certainly knows how to make sure you have a good time.

For starters you’ve got the Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park. You’ll need to be quick as it is only there until 3 January, but it is open all day from 10am until 10pm at night. There is plenty to do as well, with a giant wheel, a circus and of course the much loved ice rink.

If you like the idea of ice skating and you want a bit longer to enjoy doing it during the winter, you can get your skates on at Somerset House as well. This has ice skating on offer until almost the end of January. It looks wonderful – particularly with a huge Christmas tree situated at one end.

Of course one of the best activities to get stuck into during the winter is some serious shopping. The January sales give you a great reason to wrap up and brave the elements to find a bargain or two.

Start off with all the big stores down Oxford Street and work your way along to the likes of Harrods and Selfridges. You won’t find bargains everywhere but there should be enough to whet your appetite for saving some money!

There is also no better time of the year to enjoy a ride on the London Eye. This is particularly true if you happen to get a very cold day which starts off frosty and stays that way. Just imagine being above London and watching a few flakes of snow coming down. The weather isn’t guaranteed but it certainly looks good if you get lucky!

If you really want to make the most of the time of year you can even pay extra to get your own private ride on the London Eye. This can even come complete with mulled wine and some tasty mince pies.

It is also worth visiting some of London’s finest museums if you want to come indoors out of the cold for a while. Not only are some of them free – a big advantage if you are short on cash after the Christmas period – but they also have special exhibitions on at times as well.

A good example is the tree dressing activity that happens at the Museum of London on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Before you arrive in London make sure you check the website of any museum you want to visit during the winter months. This will enable you to find out which ones have the best special events on offer.

You can even make your trip to London more special by booking one of many hotels in London to prolong your trip. Whatever you decide to do in London this winter, you’ll be glad you made the time.
